York National Railway Museum 2023

Visit York's National Railway Museum from York Naburn Lock Caravan Park.

York’s National Railway Museum houses the UK’s largest collection of historic, record breaking locomotives and railway artefacts. Queen Victoria’s lavish ‘Royal Train’, truly “a palace on wheels” is also on display. Entrance to the museum is FREE and there’s almost always a workshop, tour or exhibition to make your visit to the railway museum a memorable day out.
For many, the first stop is the ‘Roundhouse’ or Great Locomotive Hall which houses the engines which became ‘champions of speed’ at the zenith of Britain’s Railways. Here you can see “Mallard” the World’s fastest steam locomotive. Mallard and others of the same class would once have sped through Naburn Railway Station on the Northern route.

You can see Royal Trains in York Railway Museum's Station Hall

Guests are advised that some parts of the Railway Museum will be closed for re-development through 2023 and is planned to re-open in 2024.

Rail enthusiasts will be making tracks to York National Railway Museum so why not put the railway museum on your ‘must do’ list when staying at York Naburn Lock Caravan Park? The Railway Museum is in Leeman Road, a short walk from York Railway Station.
