Jorvik’s Vikings Return to York 28 May – 1 Jun

Visit York's Jorvik Viking Centre from York Naburn Lock Caravan Park

Vikings return to York over the Spring Bank Holiday. They will be pitching tents in the city centre for a re-enactment of life in York during the 9th Century. The festival will also extend to York’s amazing Jorvik Viking Centre, located in Coppergate close to the 42 bus stop. The Jorvik experience has been recently rebuilt with new features after it was flood damaged in 2015. The centre depicts the Viking way of life in the 9th Century around a re-creation of a Viking street in Jorvik, the Viking name for York. A highlight of the visit is a guided-transporter tour of wonderful dioramas depicting life, farming and work in Viking times. Many of the artefacts were recovered from a four year excavation of a Viking settlement 9 metres below today’s street level in the city centre. This yielded buildings, clothing and 40,000 other archaeological items.
