Jorvik’s Vikings Return to York

Visit York's Jorvik Viking Centre from York Naburn Lock Caravan Park

See the way Vikings lived in Jorvik, the Viking name for York. The amazing Jorvik Viking Centre is in Coppergate close to the 42 bus stop in Piccadilly. The Jorvik Experience has been rebuilt and reimagined with exciting new features after flood damage in 2015. The centre depicts the Viking way of life in the 9th Century around a re-creation of a Viking street in Jorvik, the Viking name for York. A highlight of the visit is a guided-transporter tour of wonderful dioramas depicting life, farming and work in Viking times. Many of the artefacts were recovered from a four year excavation of a Viking settlement 9 metres below today’s street level in the city centre. This yielded buildings, clothing and 40,000 other archaeological items.
