Visit York’s Christmas Markets: 16 Nov- 23 Dec 2024
York gets into the Festive Christmas spirit after the big Christmas lights switch-on November 16th. 100’s of brightly decorated Scandanavian style chalets open for St Nicholas’ markets, transforming the city centre into a festive wonderland of glitter and joy. Around Parliament Square, St Sampson’s Square and throughout the city you’ll find a treasure trove of festive treats and Christmas gifts.
Beautifully decorated for Christmas, the Medieval Shambles and Shambles Market are a must-visit. Festive Music, choirs and speciality markets feature at weekends throughout December. Who knows, ‘Santa Claus’ might just find you that special Christmas gift…
Take a look at what else you can enjoy around the York Christmas Markets:
Always popular for seasonal refreshments, Thor’s Tipi Bar, will open in two locations through this this year’s Christmas markets. The new venue is York Museum Gardens by the river. Thor’s traditional location at the Principal Hotel Garden (adjacent to York Railway Station) will also be open.
Christmas is a very special time for a visit to York Minster. There’s a Christmas Tree Festival, as well as traditional carol services and concerts. Then there’s the seasonal joy of entertainment and pantomimes at the city’s theatres.
Only a few moments’ drive from York Naburn Lock Caravan Park, the fantastic Winter Wonderland is at York’s Designer Outlet. Here, you will find the largest ice-rink in Yorkshire, a 30ft high Christmas tree spectacularly decorated with thousands of twinkling lights, wooden chalets and the Chalet CafĂ© & Bar all designed around an alpine theme.
