York gets into the Festive Christmas spirit from the big Christmas lights switch-on November 16th. 100’s of brightly decorated Scandanavian style chalets open for St Nicholas’ markets, transforming the city centre into a festive wonderland of glitter and joy. Around Parliament Square, St Sampson’s Square and throughout the city you’ll find a treasure trove of festive treats and Christmas gifts.
Beautifully decorated for Christmas, the Medieval Shambles and Shambles Market are a must-visit. Festive Music, choirs and speciality markets feature at weekends throughout December. Who knows, ‘Santa Claus’ might just find you that special Christmas gift…

New in York this Christmas, Winter Hütte, by Michelin Starred Chef, Andrew Pern, is a two storey ‘pop-up’ restaurant serving delicious food on the top deck and a licensed bar at ground level. It is sure to be a popular choice with Christmas visitors to York. Winter Hütte is open daily until late, 17 Dec – 1 Jan 2023, conveniently close to the bus stop.
Christmas is a very special time for a visit to York Minster. There’s a Christmas Tree Festival, as well as, traditional carol services and concerts. Or, there’s the seasonal joy of entertainment and pantomimes at the city’s theatres.
